I resurrected my abandoned 70 orc warrior and decided to transfer him to a livelier realm. His name is Meecrob (South Park reference) and has had it his whole life. Upon logging into his new realm, I discover that my name is taken! I'm at a total loss now. I'd hate to pick something cheesey and then find a great name later and pay the fee to change it. Any good suggestions before I log in to him later?

I thought about it, but I would hate to cheese on someone elses name like that. I'd rather have something more unique than just a twist on the spelling, though I have used Mekrab before.

just don't use 1 for i or 0 for o, i hate that. ohh sorry tr1ck didn't see that mahahah j/k
i hate coming up with names. it's hard to come up with something good and not taken already on a highly populated realm.

This is the name I've been using on another forum for years (trick was taken), that's why I chose it here.
Yea, my fortune lead me to the highest populated PvE server in NA.

Really up to you. There's a paid name change that's not too expensive now so it's not TOTALLY final, but think about it. I always do stuff that's class related (i.e. my mage's name is "Frozen"), but again it's up to you.

You can add a letter or change a vowel somewhere. When I transferred my character Noriah to Whisperwind, I had to use Norriah. Also, when I made my warrior Renatta, I had to add an extra T because someone was already using Renata (some level 16 mage who hasn't been recorded as active since 2005).
Don't assume that it's being used by an active character ... in Ren's case, as far as I could tell from using a warcraft census site, the character hasn't been "seen" in years. It's possible it could be used by some level 1 auction mule, or a forgotten alt. It could also be on the other side. Try putting the name on your friends list and see what happens.

First, get a sandwich or some chips or something else to eat, and get something to drink too. Get a pencil and some paper also.
Then...go to the character generation screen (use your new server if you also want to check to see if your new choices are already taken).
Create a new Orc toon, then click on the random name generator.
Keep clicking. Do this for about 5 or 10 minutes. Relax and just read the names it offers. (You only need 1 hand or even just 1 finger to do this, so that's why you brought along the chips and beer. )
Write down the ones that sound good (or just memorize them) and look at ways you could change 1 or 2 letters to make them better.
In a short while you'll have a list of about 5 possibles that you really like.
